Tom & Zac // Married

I have tried to start this post three or four times now, and I just cannot seem to come up with the right words to say. There are too many thoughts, memories, emotions that rush through me as I try to type. See, Tom and I go as far back as preschool. Our relationship, like many, as ebbed and flowed throughout the years, but he’s always been near and dear to my heart. Tom has brought so much light, laughter and countless spontaneous adventures into my life, and I know the same for the lives of others around him. He is genuine, thoughtful, generous and kindhearted. Though I’ve only met Zac a handful of times throughout the past few years, I would say the exact same things about him. My eyes filled with tears a few times throughout their beautiful wedding day as my heart swelled with love and respect for these two men. It brought me such great joy to see such a good friend so undeniably happy. Thank you so much for trusting me to document the biggest day in your life together up until this point. May you have many many years of happiness and grand adventures together. xoxo!

Bri & Ty // Stonewall Farms, Willmar, MN Wedding Photography

Their story starts at a wedding. Bri was invited. Ty was a wedding crasher. A few months later, they were both in a wedding for Bri’s friend and Ty’s cousin. As bridesmaid and groomsmen, they walked down the aisle together. Fast forward through months of long distance dating (SD & WI/MN), lots of adventurous dates, and plenty of state park visits (25+ different parks) Bri and Ty decided to walk down another aisle as two individuals and back up the aisle as one; husband and wife. They have a Christ centered relationship and it was truly beautiful to witness and capture the moments when their lives became permanently intertwined.

Stonewall Farms in Willmar, MN is an absolutely gorgeous wedding venue. It was perfect for Bri and Ty’s love of the outdoors. The tall pines above, the bed of needles underfoot with the romantic bistro lights suspended in between made for a super dreamy ceremony location. Guests could easily enjoy the grounds with the horses, yard games and slight breeze with dinner under a large tent before heading to the barn for dancing (a few polka dances per the bride’s family traditions) and s’mores to finish the night off right.

Bri & Ty, I wish you two all the best in your lives together. I know together you guys will do great and wonderful things for this world. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your story and to capture the love that you share. Congratulations!

Brandi & Nathan // River Falls & Hudson, WI Wedding

There is so much to say about this couple and this wedding. Wow! I could talk about how Nathan and Brandi met exactly eleven years to the day before their wedding day. I could mention how they currently live in Omaha but chose to tie the knot in Wisconsin, since they grew up in Minnesota and Wisconsin. And how they picked the ceremony location based on images I had taken years before. I could go on and on about the numerous details and decorations that went into their wedding day that really helped tell the story of who they are as a couple and their journey together up to the wedding day. Everything from the bride’s dress being created by and worn by her grandmother during the Great Depression, and also worn by Brandi’s mother to the fun facts about the couple placed at every table seat. Then we can talk about the perfect weather they had for their photos and outdoor ceremony at Prospect Park in Hudson. Crisp, beautiful fall day with the sun shining as the leaves on the trees were just starting to turn color. Of course, I cannot forget to talk about how awesome their wedding “cake” was! Cheese wheels! How perfect for a Wisconsin wedding and yummy it was served as an appetizer during happy hour. Mostly, I cannot fail to mention that Nathan and Brandi were just smitten with each other all day and are just head over heals for one another. Like I said, I could go on and on telling you the story of their beautiful wedding day, but I hope my photographs tell you more. Congratulations Nathan and Brandi! May your love for life and each other continue for many, many years to come.

Ben & Summer // Bunker Hills Golf Club Wedding

It was a busy Saturday morning at Caribou Coffee when I first met Ben and Summer. Within a few minutes of talking, I knew this couple was one that I wanted to work with and get to know more. They are so genuine and authentic. Summer’s smile and laugh can light up the darkest room and it only takes one look from Ben to get her nose to crinkle and she’s smiling from ear to ear. For cultural traditions, this wonderful couple was officially married during a small intimate ceremony two weeks prior to their reception at Bunker Hill Golf Club in Coon Rapids. Summer’s energy and love was infectious and Ben was a great sport when bird seed was dumped down his pant legs per family traditions.

My wish is for all couples, especially my clients, is to be as happy on their wedding day and each day in their marriage as Summer and Ben were on this day. Many heartfelt congratulations to the lovely couple. It was an honor to get to know the two of you and work with you on such a big day in your lives together.

Summer & Kyle // Kilkarney Hills Golf Course, River Falls, WI

Summer and Kyle’s wedding colors of bright pinks, yellows and oranges, complimented by grey, was the perfect color pallet for their outdoor wedding on an overcast and misty day. The bright colors brought pops of sunshine throughout the day. Even with a looming threat of rain and storms, the couple was able to have their ceremony outside at the beautiful Kilkarney Hills Golf Course in River Falls, WI. The colors, the tree lined driveway, the perfect little gazebo, the decorative details, topped off with a great couple….wow!! Love. Congratulations Kyle and Summer. Thank you for letting us be apart of your wedding day!

Jen & Miah // Lake Superior Beach House Wedding

Ahhh… to be on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth at Park Point Beach House. Beautiful. Nothing can really compare and it only gets better when celebrating the marriage of two awesome people. Jen and Miah had the perfect, relaxed and casual lakeside wedding a few weeks ago. If all weddings could be as laid back, fun and enjoyable for everyone there. After a short ceremony overlooking the lake, it was a big party where guests mingled, played yard games, kids dug in the sand and wonderful food catered by Duluth Grill was served. These two love to adventure in the great outdoors, hiking, biking, camping, and exploring so the outdoor setting was perfect for them. Miah’s quick quips and remarks led Jen to a contagious laughter and beautiful smile. Can we do it all again please? Get married again next weekend Jen and Miah? K, thanks! It was so much fun, I want to go back already. Congratulations! 01_ParkPointBeachHouseWedding

Mark & Stephanie // Eco-Friendly Wedding at Double R Farms in Osceola, WI

Stephanie is apart of a company called Trades of Hope. The mission of the company is to empower women by teaching them artistic trades and have compassionate entrepreneurs, like Stephanie, sell their fair trade jewelry, home decor and other accessories. This helps women get out of working in sweatshops, be subject to human trafficking, abusive situations and poverty. So it was a no surprise when Stephanie also planned an eco-friendly, fair-trade, local business based wedding in Osceola, WI. Every vendor, from her shoes to her florist, came from a company that supplied local, sustainable or repurposed products and services. (See vendor list below for specifics).

Stephanie and Mark met through mutual friends and since their first date, where they went bowling, they have been adventuring in the great outdoors (including a kayaking trip where Mark proposed) and sharing in life together. Their wedding ceremony was set to be outside overlooking a corn field and pasture at Double R Farms in Osceola, but mother nature had it’s own plans for the day. The wind was fierce all morning and the air stifling hot and humid. At the last minute they moved the ceremony inside the barn, which was a great call for as soon as Stephanie’s dads were walking her down the aisle, a huge clap of thunder sounded and rain came down in sheets. By the end of the ceremony the storm had passed, cooling the air and making way for beautiful clouds and sunset which we took full advantage of for photos.

Congratulations Mark and Stephanie. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share in your day! Enjoy your photos. :D

Abby & Lucas // Ironwood, MI Summer Wedding

This couple picked the best day to get married in my opinion. June 18th. I may be slightly biased though. Phil and I were married on June 18th five years ago. Best five years of my life so far! We celebrated our marriage by documenting these two lovebirds make lifelong commitments to each other. Abby and Lucas met in 2012 and over the years they were friends, coworkers, significant others and now husband and wife. On their wedding day we were able to photograph in locations that were meaningful to them. We did their first look at the location where Lucas proposed and we stopped by a few places in town where they had their first date and liked to hang out. It was a beautiful day full of love, family and friends. Oh, and does Abby look familiar to anyone? Could be because you’ve seen her three times before on my blog. She is the younger sister to Rachel, Hannah and Naomi. I have had the privilege and honor of photographing all four of these beautiful girls weddings. Britta & Kyle // Intimate Backyard Wedding Hudson, WI

He owns a tattoo shop in Eau Claire. She is a physical therapist in the cities. Their paths crossed when a mutual friend introduced them. Andrea & Jonathan // Oak Glen Golf Course Stillwater Wedding

I first met Andrea and Jonathan at a Caribou where we instantly hit it off. We talked as though we were long lost friends finally reunited. They told me the story of how they met, and how Jonathan proposed. We talked in length about their wedding details and found many similar personality traits between Andrea and myself. I hugged her at the end of our meeting as I would a dear friend, even though I has just met her two hours before.

So it was a great joy and privilege to witness Andrea and Jonathan as they wed at the beautiful Oak Glen Golf Course in Stillwater, MN. Between a few rain showers we were able to capture their love for one another and document two beautiful people make a life long commitment. Andrea was radiant all day long. Her smile said all that I’m sure she was feeling inside. She simply beamed. All of Jonathan’s wedding day anxieties melted away the moment he saw his beautiful bride and with much love and admiration he genuinely praised and complimented Andrea all day long.

Thank you Andrea and Jonathan for the opportunity to work with you and your wonderful families and friends. With our hearts full of joy for the two of you, we wish you many years of love and happiness. Congratulations.

Sam & Naomi // Wedding Photography

Naomi’s older sister Hannah, introduced Naomi to Sam at Fort Wilderness Camp in 2013 where they were all working for the summer. Because Sam already knew Hannah and some stories of Hannah’s family,  Naomi recalls the first thing Sam ever said to her was “Hi Naomi! So I hear you like poop.” Now, though I don’t know the context of this, and nor do I think I really want to, it was the start of a beautiful love story between Naomi and Sam. Over the years their relationship evolved and deepened. They dated long distance for awhile before Naomi decided to move to Iowa to be closer to Sam. Their wedding took place on a beautiful spring day, where though it was muddy, the sun was warm and their faces shown bright with love for each other and for the Lord. Congratulations Sam and Naomi!

Joe & Amanda // Virginia Wedding Photography

To quote Amanda, “We’ve been friends since flip phones.” We met freshman year in college when we lived on the same floor in the dorms. We became fast friends and went on to being teammates on the swim team and having a lot of crazy great adventures together. After two years I transferred schools and then Amanda moved to a couple different states after graduating. She’s one of those friends that you can talk to once or twice a year and it feels like no time has past, so when she called to tell me she was engaged, I was truly thrilled for her. When she asked me to photograph her wedding I was even more excited. The wedding was in Virginia so Phil and I flew out there for the wedding and took an extra few days and made it a little mini vacation for ourselves as well. We met Joe for the first time on Saturday and could tell instantly that he made Amanda happy and they were a great pair together. Saturday started off rainy but stopped just in time for outdoor portraits. The ceremony and reception were at the Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket which was an ideal setting for a fall wedding. Everything about the day was beautiful. Congratulations to Amanda and her new husband Joe! I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and love together.

Jamie & Stevin // Blue Horse Farm Wedding Photography

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you are all doing well. Today is the first day back at school for most kids around here. How did that happen? What happened to summer? Too. Fast. That’s all I have to say about that. It’s been busy for Kelly K Photo these last few months. I’ve had some really awesome sessions with some really awesome people. I’ll start blogging those sessions soon, but let’s start with a completely awesome wedding. Jamie and Stevin had the most gorgeous day at Blue Horse Farm in New Richmond, WI. Their day was full of people, vendors and details that are a reflection of their interests. We had an opportunity to steal the lovely couple away from their reception for a little bit and capture some absolutely stunning photos during sunset. Phil and I had a blast capturing your wedding day Jamie and Stevin. Congratulations and best wishes in all your future adventures together.

Heirloom Albums

It’s time to re-introduce the beautiful and exquisite Heirloom Album. This is still my top of the line wedding album, I have just renamed it from Keepsake to Heirloom as it truly will be your first family heirloom, lasting for generations to come. I recently designed this album using images from Adam and Audra’s wedding to have as a studio sample and it is simply too beautiful not to share!

DSC_3530-Edit
The cover material is in a pearl spiral pattern giving the album elegance and luxury. When designing your custom album with me there are 30+ other cover options to choose from as well. This album is 15 inches wide (30 inches when opened!) by 10 inches tall. I also offer the album in a 10×10 inch square format.

SpineEdges

The album pages are thick for durability and tasteful style. The edge binding is the best in the world (in my opinion). No matter how often you look through this album, the pages will not start falling apart at the seams.

DSC_3533

For this sample, I opted to have one small image in the cover cutout. You can have up to three images with a variety of location options or one large favorite image that takes up the whole front cover. The options are great to help you create the custom album of your dreams that will showcase your wedding and that you will be proud of for life.

DSC_3536

All pages lay-flat with no gap in the gutter of the page seams. This provides for an excellent viewing experience as the book lays flat in your lap or to display on a table. There is the additional bonus of having more photo design options and allowing images to flow from one page to the other with very minimal disruptions.

DSC_3569-Edit

For newly married couples, you will pick out 45-60 of your favorite images from your wedding day and I will design the page layouts using your images as inspiration for the layout. You will get a chance to make page revisions and have the final say in approval before the album gets sent to a professional print and assembly company. I try to make the process as easy and effortless as can be for you so that you can sit back and simply enjoy married life. Once approved, the albums take 4-6 weeks for processing and then it is yours for a lifetime for you to share with your friends, family, kids and grandkids someday.

There is nothing to compare the experience of holding this album and looking through the pages for yourself. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions on this album or any other albums that I offer.

Adam & Audra // Wedding Photography

Last August I photographed this awesome couple’s engagement which included some epic tandem slalom water skiing. If you missed it, check it out here. Adam and Audra’s plan was to do a little snow skiing on their wedding day, but who knew that in February in Minnesota there would be no snow? Crazy. Even without skiing their wedding day was phenomenal. We started photographing before the sun rose early in the morning at the Hilton Marquette Hotel in Minneapolis followed by the absolutely gorgeous Hennepin Ave United Methodist Church for their ceremony at 10:30am. A brunch reception was held at Como Zoo which was full of fun activities for kids including coloring books, animal masks and a live penguin from the zoo. Audra and Adam had many great and personal details throughout the day but my favorite by far was their cake table (and not for the reason that it featured some of my images from their engagement session). Their cake was custom made by Audra’s sister and made for a great set up for a few of their ring shots. Audra and Adam I wish you many years of grand adventures together. Congratulations.

Tony + Hannah // Wedding Photography

We started the 2015 wedding season off early with an amazing couple – Tony and Hannah. They are full of life, lots of laughter and love. Hannah is the younger sister of Rachel whom we photographed getting married to Tyler back in 2013 (you can view their wedding here.) It was so much fun working with their family again and meeting Tony’s family and friends. Though we were at the same locations we were for Rachel and Tyler’s wedding, we were able to capture images that really reflect Hannah and Tony’s personality and relationship. Finding something new and beautiful in a familiar scene is one of the things I love about being a photographer. It challenges you to see things in a way you haven’t thought to look for before.

Tony and Hannah, thank you so much for letting us be apart of your wedding day. May your love for life and each other bring you joy and happiness in all your days.

Lucas & Sarah // Hudson, WI Wedding Photography

Lucas and Sarah tied the knot in one of my favorite places in Hudson – Prospect Park. They planned a simple and beautiful ceremony overlooking the St. Croix River. Some of the trees had already started to change colors which made for the perfect backdrop against the black and white wedding party attire. Sarah was an absolutely stunning bride and the way she looks at Lucas reflects the love they share. Congratulations Lucas and Sarah. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to photograph your wedding ceremony!

Adam & Audra // Engagement Photography

Ok, so I get excited about all of the engagement and weddings that I photograph, but this one I am even more excited about! Audra and Adam are so great and I love their vision for their wedding coming up this winter. I am not going to ruin any surprises, you will have to stay tuned for that. but the following images from their engagement session will give you a hint as to how fun this couple really is. When Audra first contacted me about doing an engagement shoot at Carver Park, I was excited. But then she said they wanted to go double slalom water skiing as part of the session and have me photograph from the boat- I was pumped!! How fun is that?! They skied at sunset which created beautiful lighting in the background. Adam (as you will see in the last photograph here) is an AMAZING slalom skier. Together they love being outside and being active. This was the perfect session to show their interests and their relationship. As I said, stay tuned in February to see images from their wedding. I cannot wait. Congratulations Adam and Audra. Thanks for letting me be apart of your adventures!

Nic & Tamara // Duluth Wedding Photography

When I think about Nic and Tamara’s wedding, my thoughts race from the weather changing from rain to sun right in time for the ceremony, the perfect Duluth beach backdrop, the sound of the crashing waves, the traditional Thai water blessing, the gorgeous bouquets and flowers, Tamara’s wedding band made by Nic himself, the beautiful decorations at the Duluth Depot, the exceptionally delicious meal and carrot cake among so many other things.

However, the things I think I will remember most are the small moments. Nic’s expression when he sees Tamara for the first time that day. The way Tamara locks eyes with Nic as she is walking down the aisle with her parents, and the countless stolen glances and smiles they share during the ceremony and throughout the night. During the reception, I was talking with Tamara, and Nic interrupts (in a polite way) to tell Tamara how beautiful she looks. The deep felt gratitude they expressed to their family and friends tells so much about the couple. You can tell that the love and respect between them runs deep. They are a truly beautiful couple – inside and out. It was an honor and blessing to witness the unity of these two lovely people. Congratulations Nic and Tamara!

Willie & Jennifer // Onalaska, WI Wedding Photography

The La Crosse/Onalaska area will always feel like home to me, so spending the weekend there to celebrate Jennifer and Willie’s wedding made my heart so happy. The couple planned the perfect day and picked so many awesome locations for photographs! Jennifer’s dad and brothers work for the railroad, so they rented a train-trolley for the morning to shuttle us around Onalaska, La Crosse and La Crescent, MN. It was a beautiful summer day filled with love and laughter, family and friends. Jennifer and Willie are generous, caring and full of life and love. We were honored and blessed to be apart of your special day. We loved celebrating with you- congratulations!!

My heart swells with joy and happiness when thinking about this couple – Greg and Megan. For Greg is my brother, and as you will see, Megan is someone near and dear to his heart. When going into this surprise session, my own heart was pounding out of my chest, I could hardly breath and my head was in the clouds with anticipation and excitement. Phil and myself were hiding behind trees and bushes at the Lyndale Park Rose Gardens with our cameras and witnessed a love story unfold in front of our eyes. Greg had planned a special evening for Megan which included a picnic in the park, a walk around Lake Harriet and a once in a lifetime question asked at the Rose Gardens which Megan said YES to! I could not be any more happy for them. After they basked in their love for a little while, Phil and I came out from our hiding spaces and Greg pointed us out, a detail that Megan was totally surprised by. We celebrated with them and took more pictures to capture this truly special and beautiful moment in their lives – the beginning of a wonderful journey together. My little brother is grown up and I am so proud of who he has become and I cannot explain how excited I am for Megan to be joining our family. Congratulations Greg and Megan. We love you both so much!

Amanda & Darren // Wedding Photography

Happy first anniversary to Amanda and Darren! Their wedding was the Saturday after all the huge storms in the Twin Cities last year when the power went out for three days in some areas – remember that? When I showed up at the church the morning of their wedding, I was’t even sure if the church was going to have power. Thankfully it did. Not only for the sound system and lights to work during the ceremony, but for the air conditioner – it was HOT outside. Amanda, Darren, and myself would run and do photos outside quick and then run back in to cool down and kept doing this until we got all the photos we wanted. Amanda and Darren were so calm despite the storms and the heat. You didn’t have to be around them long before you knew that their soon-to-be other half was all that they were focusing on that day. The two compliment each other so well and they are full of life and love. The pink bridesmaids dresses, gray tuxes and Amanda’s birdcage veil were a perfect combination for a vintage inspired wedding. Happy Anniversary Darren and Amanda, I hope this is the first of many, many more to to come!
