seniors.

Zach // New Life Academy Woodbury, MN High School

After being delayed a week due to rain, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting and working with Zach and his mom last week for Zach’s senior portraits. For our session, we walked around downtown Hudson and the river front. We were able to capture some awesome portraits of him since he is a complete natural in front of the camera. It was fun to see his personality come through the further along in the session we got.

Zach is the youngest of his siblings with four older sisters. He currently attends New Life Academy of Woodbury, MN where he is active in music groups playing the electric guitar. He hopes to attend Iowa State next year.

Congrats on your senior year Zach!

Laura // Eau Claire Senior Portraits

I am a little behind in posting these images from back in October when I went to Eau Claire to photograph Laura’s senior portraits. She wanted fall colors in her photos, but she did not want to have her brace on from her ACL surgery a month prior. She was a trooper as we ventured to a few different locations throughout Eau Claire to capture to beautiful afternoon light. We ended the session with a few quick soccer shots like we had done with her older sister, Anna’s session. Isn’t Laura just gorgeous? And she can pull of the serious look so well. Natural beauty. I hope you are continuing to recover well and that you have a fantastic senior year Laura. It was a joy working with you!HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura1HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura2HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura3HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura4HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura5HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura6HudsonSeniorPortraits_Laura7

The $99 (+tax) session fee will be due at the time of the session. Rescheduling due to rain will be figured out on a one to one basis with Kelly.

Logan // Minnehaha Senior Portraits

I first met Logan almost 10 years ago now. His older sister was my neighbor and good friend in the door rooms freshman year of college. At the time he was a young spirited little kid. Now, he is a senior in high school on the varsity football team with aspirations of becoming an engineer some day. Over the years I have had the privilege and honor of photographing Logan’s two older sisters, Shaina and Stacie, so it was such a joy for me to now photograph the youngest sibling in this incredible family.  Have a fantastic senior year Logan and best wishes to your future!

Mitchell // Senior Portraits

A couple weeks ago, I drive to my aunt and uncles house to photograph my cousin, Mitchell, for some slightly belated senior portraits since he has already graduated high school. Mitchell is a gifted guitar player, and has a fantastic laugh and smile, and though he won’t admit it, he enjoys being in front of a camera. It was a fun session to say the least!

Thomas // Stillwater MN Senior Portraits

Thomas took a chance with me, and I think it paid off well. Thomas said he was looking for a location that was outdoorsy and by some water. My first instinct here in Hudson is the obvious- Lakefront Park. but I wanted to try something new; to go somewhere I have not photographed before.  I suggested doing his senior portraits at the Boom Site in Stillwater, MN. I had only heard of this location from a friend a while back. Thomas was up for the adventure, so I met him and his mom there. We were all pleasantly surprised. We met on a day that had been raining all morning, but cleared just in time for the session. It was awesome! Thomas is a senior in Woodbury, and is looking to go into computer science and/or music. He is one talented kid, and of the nicest kind. Have a great senior year and best wishes in all you do Thomas!

Grace // Woodbury MN Senior Photographer

Happy Friday everyone! Today I’d like you to meet Grace. She is the younger sister of Emily, and a beautiful individual. We had the perfect summer day at Minnehaha Falls for her senior session. I am thrilled with how her images turned out. Grace picked the perfect outfits that really show her personality and worked great with the variety of backgrounds available at Minnehaha Falls. Grace I hope you have a memorable senior year and best of luck to you in your future.

Class of 2015 : Senior Session Sale!

Kelly K Photo : Senior Session Sale : Class of 2015

Session must be booked and photographed before July 31, 2014 in order to receive sale price. Cannot be combined with any other offer except referral cards. Price does not include sales tax.

David & Taylor // Senior Photography

David and Taylor are a lot easier to tell apart in pictures then when they are moving around and switching outfits on you. I admittedly had a hard time during the session telling them apart, but the slight difference in their smiles and their hair cuts became apparent in the photos very quickly. Both boys are on the track and cross country teams at East Ridge High School in Woodbury so we tried to start our photo day at the school’s track. After seeing the locks and the 10 foot tall fence we altered our plans pretty quickly. Instead we started at the pavilion where they meet for cross country, then headed to the beautiful Afton State Park. The weather was perfect and I had a great time getting to know David, Taylor, their mom and their dog Trooper.

Have a great senior year Taylor and David. Best of luck deciding where you want to attend college and all that the future brings!

Greta // Senior Portraits

Greta is the beautiful younger sister of Rachel – who I photographed two years ago already. We photographed in the same great location, but I love how different their images turned out. Greta I hope you have a great rest of your senior year and best wishes in all your future endeavors!

Anna // Senior Portraits

Anna and I are very similar. We are both the middle child, we enjoy creating art (but not the deep dark kind), our wardrobes mainly consists of different shades of gray and blue and we both like flowers, but would not want to be photographed in a field of them. Anna’s got hair that would make any girl with stick straight hair jealous (me being one of them) and crazy gorgeous blue eyes. With lots of options open for you next year Anna, I wish you all the best in everything you do!

Marta // Senior Photography

In her own words – Marta is only “kind of” apart of the high school graduating class of 2014 because she is already heading into her second year at Northwestern college taking PSEO classes. Loving college life already, Marta and her mom still joined me for a morning full of adventures, hiking and picture taking. We decided to photograph at Willow River State Park in Hudson for it’s abundance of beautiful scenery and photo opps. The waterfall was a main attraction to the location which the park made us work for. It was about a 3 mile hike to and from the falls. Marta and Carole were troopers during the hike even with detours, large snakes and tiny frogs.

Congratulations Marta. Many blessings on all of your life adventures!

Holiday Mini Sessions

Liz & Rachel (Senior & Sibling Photography)

Liz and Rachel are sisters. Liz and Rachel are HILARIOUS. Smart. Athletic. Beautiful. I laughed during their entire photo session, and then I laughed while editing their photos as well. (Yes, I know, I was home alone and laughing at my computer…) Liz is a senior in high school, while Rachel is already in college at the U of M. Driving to their session, it poured down rain. As soon as we arrived, the clouds broke and left us with beautiful light. Everything about this session was pretty much awesome. :)

Miss Woodbury

This is the first year that Kennedy is participating in the Miss Woodbury program which is apart of the Woodbury Days Festival coming up in August. She needed a photo to submit with her application, so we met up on Friday for a quick mini-session. Isn’t she BEAUTIFUL?! She’s got the personality to match as well.  If you’re in the area on August 27th, stop by King of Kings Lutheran Church in Woodbury at 7pm to support Kennedy and the other contestants. Good luck and have fun Kennedy!

Top 11 of 2011

Looking back on the year 2011, I have many things to be thankful for and proud of. I have learned a lot, personally and professionally. I got married, moved and still continued to run a successful photography business. I could not have done it without the support of my friends, family and all the wonderful people I have met along the way. Here is a list of my top 11 experiences from 2011.

11) Continued health & safety; for myself, friends and family.

10) Having the opportunity to DEVOTE MORE TIME to my business and explore new possibilities.

9) Having an article about Kelly K Photo published in a local paper.

8) Photographing some of my CLOSE FRIENDS and their expanding families.

7) Having the opportunity to EXPERIMENT with a new style of photography -product photography- with Fleurish. Not as easy as it looks!

6) Working with the wonderful staff and volunteers of St. John’s Church for the second year in a row.

5) Having the opportunity to work with OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS in a studio and photograph hundreds of kids and families.

4) Spending a lot of time with FAMILY & FRIENDS (at the cabin, with the new in-laws, old friends from out of town and new friends in town).

3) Photographing SENIORS; working with young men and women and telling their unique stories and personalities through photos.

2) Photographing WEDDINGS; sharing special days with special people.

1) MARRIAGE; the wedding was good, but the marriage is great!

THANKS to everyone who has helped make 2011 such a successful year! I look forward to more fun and adventures with you in 2012! ~Kelly

In the News!

While being in contact with the local paper for advertising reasons, they decided to do a business article about Kelly K Photo. About a week and a half ago, I went in for an interview and yesterday it came out in print! It feels so crazy to see my face printed on newspaper (thanks to my wonderful husband for taking the photograph!), and have a large article about what I do and everything I have worked for. If you want to read the whole article easier than these photos display, here is the link to the online article.

Anna (Senior Portraits)

Anna, like many seniors, is busy! Wow. I forgot how busy senior year can get. Anna left school early just so we could take her senior portraits on Wednesday. We had the temperature of summer, but the colors of fall. It was beautiful. We found a lot of colorful trees around their neighborhood and nearby parks. Next year she is hoping to go to South Korea. How cool is that?! Good luck with everything Anna. Enjoy your senior year!

Rachel (Senior Portraits)

After having to reschedule last week due to rain, we had the most perfect day this last Sunday for senior portraits. The sun was soft and made Rachel just radiant. Rachel and her mom took me to a secret garden (aka their neighbors backyard). It was beautiful even as we are headed into fall. We decided that if we had a garden as beautiful as their neighbors we wouldn’t need to take vacations as often; we’d just spend our time in the garden.  We also took some photos at a nearby tennis court since Rachel has been playing since 2nd grade and is now the captain of her schools tennis team! Best of luck to you Rachel in everything you do and have a fantastic senior year!

David (Senior Portraits)

Two hard things to believe here. One being that David is now my brother-in-law. It has only been three months so I’m not quite used to saying that I have in-laws. Second thing that is hard to believe is that David is now a senior in high school. He grew up quick even in the few years that I have known him. We took his photos in his backyard and at a nearby park where David’s brother (my husband) had his senior pictures taken years ago. Have fun your senior year David – just not too much. :)

Charlie (Senior Portraits)

Charlie is a pretty down to earth high school senior. Unlike many guys, Charlie seemed to be pretty comfortable in front of a camera. It was awesome working with him as he always seemed to know what to do. It was also fun working with a dirt bike and snow board. Best wishes to you during your senior year Charlie!

Emily T [Senior Portraits]

Here is what I’ve learned lately….If you want a really nice, beautiful daughter…name her Emily. Every time I meet an Emily, they are the sweetest girls. Not to say that non-Emily’s are not sweet, it just happens to be the trend I’m running into lately. This past Saturday, I met Emily T, her mom and her sister at Como Park in St. Paul. It is such a beautiful park and was a perfect setting for such a beautiful girl.
