Fall Mini Sessions // Birkmose Park Hudson WI

It’s hard to believe, but it’s that time of year again! Fall mini sessions will be offered this year on Saturday October 10, 2015 at Birkmose Park in Hudson, WI. I’ve added 10 extra minutes to the session length from last year and kept the 5 digital images (with print release!) and 10% off prints and products the same. These sessions are a great and easy opportunity to capture images for your holiday cards, to give as gifts during the holiday season or simply to finally get an updated family portrait that you’ve been putting off for a few years now. All families, couples and even high school seniors are welcomed. Sessions will be booked during the morning and late afternoon hours on October 10th. Contact Kelly with morning or afternoon preference to figure out time slots available. Contact me today with any questions or to reserve your spot. Times fill up quickly so don’t delay.

The $99 (+tax) session fee will be due at the time of the session. Rescheduling due to rain will be figured out on a one to one basis with Kelly.

Adam & Audra // Engagement Photography

Ok, so I get excited about all of the engagement and weddings that I photograph, but this one I am even more excited about! Audra and Adam are so great and I love their vision for their wedding coming up this winter. I am not going to ruin any surprises, you will have to stay tuned for that. but the following images from their engagement session will give you a hint as to how fun this couple really is. When Audra first contacted me about doing an engagement shoot at Carver Park, I was excited. But then she said they wanted to go double slalom water skiing as part of the session and have me photograph from the boat- I was pumped!! How fun is that?! They skied at sunset which created beautiful lighting in the background. Adam (as you will see in the last photograph here) is an AMAZING slalom skier. Together they love being outside and being active. This was the perfect session to show their interests and their relationship. As I said, stay tuned in February to see images from their wedding. I cannot wait. Congratulations Adam and Audra. Thanks for letting me be apart of your adventures!

Greg & Megan // Proposal

My heart swells with joy and happiness when thinking about this couple – Greg and Megan. For Greg is my brother, and as you will see, Megan is someone near and dear to his heart. When going into this surprise session, my own heart was pounding out of my chest, I could hardly breath and my head was in the clouds with anticipation and excitement. Phil and myself were hiding behind trees and bushes at the Lyndale Park Rose Gardens with our cameras and witnessed a love story unfold in front of our eyes. Greg had planned a special evening for Megan which included a picnic in the park, a walk around Lake Harriet and a once in a lifetime question asked at the Rose Gardens which Megan said YES to! I could not be any more happy for them. After they basked in their love for a little while, Phil and I came out from our hiding spaces and Greg pointed us out, a detail that Megan was totally surprised by. We celebrated with them and took more pictures to capture this truly special and beautiful moment in their lives – the beginning of a wonderful journey together. My little brother is grown up and I am so proud of who he has become and I cannot explain how excited I am for Megan to be joining our family. Congratulations Greg and Megan. We love you both so much!

Nic & Tamara // Engagement Photography

I met Nic almost 8 years ago when we worked at the same camp during the summer. We became instant friends. Nic was still in high school at the time and I was in college. Over the years we have been able to maintain a great friendship even though we live miles apart and only see each other about once a year. We kept in contact as we both went through big milestones in our lives – graduations, jobs and even marriage. I remember receiving a phone call from Nic a few years ago when he said he started hanging out more with a girl named Tamara. He told me how beautiful she was and how he really wanted to get to know her more. I found out later that they had started dating. I heard bits and pieces about their relationship as it started to grow closer and stronger. I then started receiving the phone calls from Nic saying that there was talk of marriage. Soon after he was looking for a ring. And asking her dad’s permission. The phone call finally came before Christmas saying that they had made it official and they are getting married!

Nic was there when I started dating my now husband and blessed us by being an usher at our wedding three years ago.  Now I have the privileged and the honor to be the photographer at his wedding in August.

Nic and Tamara traveled from Duluth to Hudson for an engagement session last week. I had only met Tamara twice before this and one of the times was by pure chance (running into each other at the MN State Fair of all places!). Tamara is one of the sweetest and nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Nic and Tamara are the cutest couple and I am convinced together they will make a huge difference in this world for a number of people and families.

Congratulation Nic and Tamara!  I cannot wait to celebrate with you in August.

Bridal Fair Booth

Sunday was my first experience ever being a vendor at a wedding fair. Sure, I’ve gone to a bunch of expos before and knew the gist of how they work, but it was such a unique experience to be the one standing behind the booth and giving out information. It was a rush, and it was truly humbling. As an artist, I am my own worst critic; so it was reassuring to hear so many positive comments and compliments about my work. I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who was involved in making this bridal fair such an awesome experience! If you stopped by my booth, please check back later this week to see who won the free portrait session!

In the News!

While being in contact with the local paper for advertising reasons, they decided to do a business article about Kelly K Photo. About a week and a half ago, I went in for an interview and yesterday it came out in print! It feels so crazy to see my face printed on newspaper (thanks to my wonderful husband for taking the photograph!), and have a large article about what I do and everything I have worked for. If you want to read the whole article easier than these photos display, here is the link to the online article.

Honey and the Moon

Back in December I wrote a post about becoming engaged to the man of my dreams. Well six months has come and past and we are now officially married!! We had a beautiful but unique wedding at The Woods Chapel. It started raining during the middle of our ceremony, and not just little rain drops. My wedding dress was pretty wet and getting really muddy. Then the thunder came. Thankfully, there was an indoor chapel as well on the same grounds so we had everyone stand up and move inside where we continued with the rest of the ceremony. It will be a part of the day we will never forget! Our reception consisted of playing games in our church gym and taking gobs and gobs of pictures with our photographer Emily Griffith, as well as having some taken in a photobooth we rented. It was pretty spectacular. There was not one part of the day that I would change if I could.

The Monday following our wedding we boarded a plane and headed for Colorado for our honeymoon. We stayed at a resort and spent the week adventuring. We went on a high country jeep ride, went to a state park, spent an afternoon white water rafting and spent an evening in Telluride. We stuffed ourselves silly with delicious food all week long and finished up the week with a mine tour, and a fantastic couples massage. It was defiantly hard to come back to Minnesota after a week of sunshine, 80 degree weather with hardly any humidity. Here are just a few image from the trip.

Entering into the experience of a bride. . .

My best friend, Phil, asked me to marry him on December 9th!!! :) I said yes instantly! I smiled so big for the next week straight that my face hurt. Ear to ear I was a little girl in love. I also could not tear my eyes off of the shiny new ring on my finger! (See image below)

I have now entered into the experience of a bride. I have been photographing brides and grooms for a few years now, but it will finally be my turn to put on the white dress and look my love in the eyes as we declare our commitment to each other.

Here are a few pictures from the day of and the day after that we took as a newly engaged couple. It was cold, but wonderful to be standing outside next to my fiance!

This is the Devil’s Punch Bowl in Menomonie Wisconsin. We took a few photos like this and then right after the sun went down and we were about to leave, Phil got down on one knee! (:

We took these photos the day after at Caddy Woodlawn Park (also in Menomonie). You could say it was an engagement session. It will probably be one of many that we do between now and our wedding.

The engagement ring is part of a wedding set. I think it’s perfect.

I am completely curious as to how my photographic style might change after I am in the shoes of the bride. (They will not be the 3 inch tall heals though that some brides wear I can tell you that much though! Ha!) I am very excited to experience a wedding now not by being a bridesmaid, or a guest or the photographer. I wonder if I will see things differently after my own wedding. Will new things become important? Less important? I will soon understand more. I will gain greater incites into my own profession. I’m pumped!

I love you Philip and cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you! PKPK
